Cash for Work

On 31 May 2011, “Ak-Buura, Suleiman Too”, a public enterprise linked to the Mayor’s Office in the town of Osh, began implementation of the “Cash for Work” project, with financial support from the representative office of the International Resource Group (IRG) in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Foundation for Tolerance International took part in this project in its capacity as mobiliser and monitor. 200 volunteers from different ethnic groups were mobilised to take part in clearing a 6km territory along the Ak-Buura river and also an area around the mountain of Suleiman Тoo.

FTI’s Osh Branch coordinated and supervised volunteers, ensuring their attendance and also providing financial reimbursement for the work they had carried out.

Participants consist of 200 volunteers, divided into 8 teams of 25 people, each with an elected brigade commander responsible for the quality of work and keeping to a pre-arranged time schedule.

Monitoring and coordination took place on every day of the project’s activities. FTI’s Osh Branch also provided water and medicine to project volunteers.

As well as the cleaning activities in the areas mentioned above, the project also aimed to create an opportunity for common labour and socialising of  representatives of different ethnic groups.{jcomments on}
